Welcome! Come and join us for a great horseback riding holiday!
We are Martine and Mo, a Dutch/Tunisian couple from Djerba Zitouna Stables, situated on the Tunisian island of Djerba. We organize riding holidays for experienced riders on the beautiful Tunisian beaches but also through the calm olive orchards, ancient ruins and old villages of the island. Our stables are situated near the village of Mezraya and near the 'Flamingo Island', an 8km long peninsula of amazing beaches.
We have comfortable guest bungalows with a swimming pool and big terraces overlooking the garden, the horses and the beautiful countryside. Our horses are 10 beautiful and sweet Barb, Arab-Barb and Arab stallions, all properly fed and very well taken care of. The well being of our horses is very important to us, they are not the typical dulled tourist horses you will find on the beach.
We bought many of our horses at a young age, gave them time to develop properly and started them under the saddle ourselves, and when possible they stay with us for the rest of their lives. They are no mass tourism horses that get exchanged every few years like often happens in other stables! We ride many of our horses bitless and we pay attention they move correctly. We enjoy a relaxed but forward riding style, our horses are reactive and sensitive to the riders aids and that should stay that way.
What is unique about our stables is that, despite that all our horses are stallions, they all live socially on sand paddocks, having plenty of playtime with their friends. Because of this lifestyle they have a relaxed, balanced character. Happy horses, happy us!
Besides riding the horses are trained in natural horsemanship as well, we also organize different kinds of workshops together with trainers or horse photographers.
All you need for a great Riding Vacation
Come discover the beautiful island of Djerba on horseback. Relaxed promenades through the inland olive orchards, Beach riding and galloping over the fine sand beaches and the unspoiled Flamingo Island. Depending on the season we can also offer day tours.
It is possible to book a photo-shoot of your ride or swim. We also offer the possibility for professional or amateur photographers to stay at the ranch and organize a horse photography holiday.
Have you always dreamt of swimming with a horse? Here it is possible! Our horses love swimming in the azure blue water.
There are plenty of other things to do on Djerba such as diving and boat trips to spot wild dolphins, but also a visit to one of the islands villages or cities or even a desert excursion are definitely worth doing. We gladly help you organize all your excursions.
Stay with us on the ranch in one of the two comfortable bungalows in traditional Djerbian style. Both bungalows have private terraces looking out on the horses and the garden. For bigger groups we dispose of two more double rooms with private sanitary facilities.
It is possible to book half board during your stay, we serve traditional Tunisian plates. We can also advise you about the islands restaurants.
Airport transfers are included for our guests and further transfers can be organized. Also renting a car or scooter during your stay is possible.
Djerba is a great destination for kitesurfing and windsurfing and we work together with professional clubs where both beginners and advanced surfers can have a great time.
